Uganda’s national rugby teams are set for a packed international calendar following their official flag-off by National Council of Sports Chairman, Ambrose Tashobya, on June 2, 2025.

Three teams—the Lady Rugby Cranes 15s, the Men’s 15s, and the Men’s 7s—are heading to different destinations to represent the country on the global stage.

The Lady Rugby Cranes 15s will compete in the top tier of the Africa Cup, facing off against Kenya, South Africa, and hosts Madagascar. The tournament will run from June 6 to 17.

Meanwhile, the Men’s 15s team has traveled to Namibia for trial matches against South Africa’s Limpopo Blue Bulls, the Pumas, and Namibia. These games are part of their preparations for the Africa Cup, which Uganda will host at Namboole Stadium from July 8 to 20.

The Men’s 7s team is en route to Mauritius for the Rugby Africa 7s Cup, a tournament Uganda has won four times. The team heads into the competition with strong momentum, having recently clinched victory at the Kampala International 7s Tournament held on May 31 in Bweyogerere.

During the flag-off ceremony, Ambrose Tashobya urged the players to remain disciplined and focused:
“You are representing the country, and you must be disciplined in your campaign to make Uganda proud.”

Eric Butime, Vice President (Technical) of the Uganda Rugby Union, emphasized the Union’s long-term goal:

“Our priority is to make Uganda the top rugby nation on the continent.”
