In August, I enjoyed a two days trip to picturesque destinations in Jinja district.

I was with 10 friends, celebrating our own, Angella Asiimwe’s 30th birthday.

Colline Kabanda, a tour and travel agent came up with the itinerary, which included; Mabira forest and Nile bridge experience, lunch and a water massage at Busowoko falls.

After dinner, we would camp at Eden rock resorts in Bujagali and enjoy nightlife adventures such as a campfire, barbecue and disco.

The next day, after breakfast, we would head out for nature walks, tube on the Nile and have a boat cruise as well.

He quoted sh155, 000 plus sh50, 000 (optional) for tubing.

Fast-forward to Saturday, August 13, we set off at 9:30am from Lugogo, former Shoprite grounds.

Our first stopover was Mabira forest. We also had the Nile bridge photo shoot.

By 2:30pm, we were having lunch and thereafter, headed to Busowoko falls for a water massage.

The water massage

Busowoko falls is one of the remaining waterfalls on the White Nile River after the ruination of Bujagali, Owen falls, Isimba falls and Rippon falls.

It lies in Nawampanda village about 25km from the Source of the Nile in Jinja district.

The falls is flocked by domestic and foreign tourists thanks to its picturesque scenery.

After taking pictures from the calm water, we changed into swimsuits and were helped into the bouncing falls by the guides.

Once inside, I settled on a rugged rock. The waves kept hitting my back and lower body and I kept resisting the force. In the process, I felt massaged.

The camping experience was scary but intriguing.

After about 15 minutes, my body became weak and cold. I couldn’t resist any longer and asked the guide to help me out.

I quickly changed and wrapped myself into a fleece blanket to warm up.

We left at 7:30pm or there about.

By the time we reached the camping site, I was starving.

Thankfully, dinner was served on time. After, Kabanda led us to the compound where over 50 tents were pitched. The place was bustling with activity from other groups.

This was my first-time camping. I wondered if those small tents had a comfortable bed. Worse still, it was raining and we were asked to share the tent.

I peeped inside out of curiosity and my veins went cold. The sight of two small mattresses struck me. There were no beddings and I had not carried any.

Nevertheless, I found my way in with one of the girls called Sophie but after dropping in her bag, she went back to join the big group to dance away the night.

I was amazed at how the mattress felt comfortable and the tent too was not as cold. My fleece blanket was enough to warm me. I slept off and was only awakened when Sophie unzipped the tent to get inside.

It was past 2:00am and she was trembling from the cold.

Camping was memorable. The only undoing was the faulty bathrooms.

We showered in turns because water couldn’t flow simultaneously in the two bathrooms and toilets. When the toilet is flashed, the showers stop flowing until the cistern fills up.

Away from that, after breakfast, the group went tubing. I stayed behind and opted to have it another day. They returned at 4:00pm, drained. We set off for Kampala.
