Like they did in football when they lifted this year's Busoga Masaza cup competition a few months ago, Bukooli chiefdom has continued to showcase its supremacy in sports after their ordinary bike rider Tiff Luganda emerged as the overall winner of this year's 180km MTN Busoga Masaza cycling race held in Busoga region on Saturday.
The 26-year-old who had a bad start in the first 70km of the race, finally caught up with the chasing pack of seven riders in Kamuli town before making a sprint finish beating his closest challengers with a few seconds.
"It was a very competitive race that had seven of us scramble for the finish line, thanks to the organisers who did a commendable job to guard bodaboda motorists against blocking us during the race. This will indeed improve the sport in this region," said the champion after being awarded bodaboda Bajaj boxer.
His closest rivals Brian Yanga (Kigulu), Magidu Kyangwa of Bukooli, Felix Magumba of Bugweri, and Hakim Muzira of Bunha won shs2m,1m,500,000, and 300,000 respectively.
Butembe's John Odoto clocked a time of 5hr 44min 02 sec to win the sports bike category beating off challenges from top seed Wakiku Mayinja ( Kigulu), Dominic Mugoda (Butembe), and Shafiq Mumbya of Bugweri who were too awarded prizes like their ordinary bike counterparts.
MTN Uganda official Joseph Bogera alerted that his team will do what it takes to hand Busoga region much hype through sports and other activities that can help unite the people of Busoga.
Busoga Kingdom prime minister Muvawala Nsekere promised to put up a cycling club that will help train a formidable team to represent them region in many national cycling tours.
