Bishop Stuart University (BSU) started off the 11th edition season of the Pepsi University Football League with a resounding 3-1 win over newcomers International Business, Science and Technology University (ISBAT) at Riverside Stadium in Mbarara on Thursday.
The game watched by a big number of home fans and the first in group F, saw the hosts wait until the 31st minute when Christopher Muhwezi scored from the penalty mark.
BSU then extended their lead with a smart finish from Honest Atwijukire before Ashil Agaba completed the rout with another neat finish in the 63rd minute and when team captain Geoffrey Pirwoth scored from the penalty mark on 67 minutes, it only came out to be a consolation.
It was a hard welcome for ISBAT into the competition they are taking part in for the first time, and the result puts them at a dare need for results in the next games as their group F has three teams following the said withdrawal of Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST) that now leaves BSU, returning Kampala University and debutantes ISBAT into the battle for qualification to the next level.
“We shall take the defeat and the lessons as well, and when we start getting used to the competition, we shall be able to record good results because this has come as a learning process and we are very sure we are not bad learners,” Said ISBAT captain Geoffrey Pirwoth.
The win takes BSU atop of group F awaiting their second encounter away to Kampala University who are making a return to the competition.
