Back-to-back victories in the span of forty-one days have pushed super lightweight Latibu “Dancing Master” Muwonge into contention for three continental belts.

Muwonge, an Africa Boxing Union (ABU) super lightweight champion, made his return to the ring on Saturday, September 28, with full force, thumping Kenya’s Denis Otieno in a non-title eight-round contest.

The two tussled at Club Obligato along Bombo Road, in an event featuring over 15 bouts, organised by his promotion company, Great Strikers International.

His unanimous points victory over Otieno is his second in one and a half months, the other being against another Kenyan, Richard Okoth, on August 17, 2024, at Zana Playgrounds in Kampala.

These two victories have brought him back into the top ten on the continent, allowing him to challenge for three continental belts.

“I’m back, solid and stronger than ever before. I’m happy the two victories I have had will act as tune-up fights before I challenge for continental titles again,” Muwonge told Vision Sport.

“My target was to challenge for major titles before 2024, but I had a setback in Ghana. Fortunately, I’m back in the top ten rankings on the continent. I’m ready to go.”

At the start of this year, Muwonge was ranked first on the continent by the ABU with his super lightweight title, which he clinched following his unanimous points decision against Tanzania’s Clement Albano on March 10, 2023.

His setback came with his split decision loss to Ghana’s Faisal Abubakari while vying for the World Boxing Organisation (WBO) Africa title in Accra, Ghana, in March this year.

Now back on track, Muwonge is ranked 10th by the ABU and will seek to reclaim his ABU title currently held by Ghanaian Emmanuel Tagoe.

He is also rated 7th on the continent by the WBO and 8th by the World Boxing Federation (WBF) and is confident of vying for the three titles in the coming months.
