Boni Consilii Girls School Kyabirukwa cemented their status as a powerhouse in girls' football, successfully defending their Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) Ankole zonal championship title on Sunday.
The Isingiro district champions overcame fierce competition before overpowering record-holders Sheema Girls 4-1 in a thrilling final at Bushenyi Main Grounds.
The match, witnessed by hundreds of spectators, showcased Boni Consilii's exceptional talent, particularly from their Teen Cranes contingent. Striker Rinah Ariho netted a brace of spectacular goals, while teammate Imurinde Ashanti stunned the crowd with a 55-meter free-kick wonder strike. New signing Biiba Nenghamba completed the rout with a clinical finish.
"This victory reflects our hard work and dedication under our coaches' guidance," said team captain and Teen Cranes defender Zzida Asiimwe. "We're now focused on improving last year's national championship performance and securing Uganda's slot at the FEASSA games."
The road to the final saw Boni Consilii stage a remarkable comeback, overturning a two-goal deficit to defeat Kibingo Girls 3-2 in the semifinals. Sheema Girls had earlier booked their final spot with a comprehensive 4-0 victory over Nyabubare SS.
The tournament featured 58 teams from 13 districts, with USSSA Ankole Zone Chairman Egidio Mucunguzi praising participants for advancing girls' football development. Boni Consilii and Sheema will be joined by Kibingo Girls, Nyabubare SS, Kinoni High School, and Bubangizi SS to represent the zone at the national USSSA Ball Games I in Bukedea this May.
