The national boxing team has left the country for the first World Olympic boxing qualifiers in Busto-Arsizio, Italy.

The Bombers left the country Friday morning aboard Egyptian Airlines amidst confusion surrounding their camp over finances.

A contingent of six including four boxers in captain, light welterweight Joshua Tukamuhebwa, flyweight Shafic Mawanda, middleweight Yusuf Nkobeza, and welterweight Emily Nakalema were joined by gaffer Twaibu Mayanja who will be deputised by Nicholas Bbuule, a professional boxer.

Before their flight, the bombers had endured challenges in securing their visas but successfully acquired them on Thursday afternoon.

More confusion in their travel came out as it emerged they had no leader of the delegation or a team manager either from the Uganda Boxing Federation (UBF), the National Council of Sports (NCS), or the body in charge of these qualifiers, the Uganda Olympics Committee (UOC).

The Italy World Olympic boxing qualifier is slated for March 2 and 12, and the second world boxing qualifier is slated for May 23 and June 3rd in Bangkok, Thailand.

Only Tukamuhebwa punched his way to the semis of the Africa Olympic boxing qualifier last year in Dakar, Senegal of a team that had six boxers including Olympian Shadir Musa Bwogi.
