Uganda women's rugby champions, the Black Pearls beat their hosts Impala Roans of Kenya 21-0 in a friendly game played at Impala Rugby Ground in Nairobi on Saturday.

Emily Lekuru managed three tries and Charlotte Mudoola added three conversions to hand the Ugandan side a 21-0 victory over their hosts.

The Bweyogerere-based side well aware of the superior size of the opponent's pack applied a running game that saw Lekuru execute the moves easily in the first half.

The Black Pearls sponsored by Lone Africa, an electric engineering solution company arrived in Nairobi and took time to train in the Friday afternoon rain, which helped them much in ball handling.

The hosts applied a physical game carrying the ball to the Ugandans, but the Pearls' defence was solidly backed by low tackling skills.

The away victory against Kenya's number two side is a clear sign that the Uganda champions have a bright future as far as women's Rugby is concerned.

Impala Rugby Club Chairman Steven Obondi noted that the results have challenged his girls to go pick a lesson and work hard but it was also a challenge for the Black Pearls to work harder and to stay on top.

“Today's game marks a challenge for both sides, the winner and the loser, but the most important is that it has rejuvenated the Impirates tournament that used to exist in the early 90s and 2000,” Obondi said.

In the past decade, the Stanbic Black Pirates and Impala had a relationship that helped both clubs perform better.

George Mbalu the Lone Africa director assured the Black Pearls of the continued support.

Impala is expected to come to Kampala for the return leg.

The match was attended by officials of the Uganda High Commission in Kenya Jeremaih Guma and Diana Kikanu who later hosted the team for a party at Harlequin Ground.
