Uganda Handball Federation will for the first time in its history send a team to the African qualifiers for the Beach World Championships.

The women's team will face Kenya, Mali, Algeria, and hosts Tunisia in the continental qualifiers from June 23 to 30, in Hammamet, Tunisia.

The winner of the tournament will qualify for the ANOC World Beach Games scheduled for August 5 to 12, in Bali, Indonesia.

Uganda Handball Federation President Sheila Agonzibwa said this is the opportunity for Uganda to start being ranked.

“We have talent, but because we do not compete in such tournaments, we do not get chances of being ranked and our players being exposed to international competitions,” Agonzibwa said at a media briefing.

“We are now looking for sh43m to have the team of 10 players and two officials travel for the tournament.”

She lauded Ndejje University for accommodating the team and offering the court for free for the training of the team and urged corporate brands to come on board and support the team.

The players training under coach George Isabirye and Ismael Bazanye include Lilian Achola, Shakira Bako, Evalyn Aitasi, Oliver Katusiime, Fauzia Nakajja, Hilda Abangit, Aisha Namajja, Proscovia Nakiyingi, and Doreen Ondoa.

The others are Kulusum Abiria, Esther Adyeru, Nasimu Mutesi, Scovia Lamunu,Brenda Adokochi, Florence Anyaita,Rachael Nyakaisiki, Lilian Nampijja, Diana Tiperu  and Pretty Tusiime.

They will later be trimmed to the final 10.

Coach Ismael Bazanye was confident that at the time of the tournament the team will good enough to compete because they are talented and have experience.
