Teams that are going to take part in the Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) Ball Games have started arriving at Teso College Aloet, Soroti.
The games kick off today.
Teso College Aloet was granted rights to host USSSA FEASSA games qualifiers having lost the bid to host the FEASSSA games which Amus College School and Bukedea Comprehensive School will be hosting.
The championship is expected to bring together 7,500 learners from various schools in the country to tussle for various accolades in different disciplines.
On Tuesday afternoon 76 schools including Kibuli SS, Buddo SS, St Mary’s College Lugazi, Jinja SS, St Noa Girls SS, Trinity College Nabbingo, St Micheal High School Sonde, Mbogo Mixed, Light College Katikamu, Namugongo SS vocational had arrived for the games.
Among other schools recorded are Bukedea Comprehensive, Teso region Athletics team, Kiira College, Light SS, Jinja SS, Kween Athletics team, Tororo Girls, Nyondo, Bukwo Athletics team, Iganga Town View, Ntare school Mbarara, St Jerom SS, St Elizabeth Girls SS, Mbarara Army school, Ibanda SS, Kigezi high school, Standard College Ntungamo, Kibuburah Girls, Masheruka girls and Kyeizooba Girls.
The athletes will be competing in the following sports disciplines netball, basketball 3 on 3, handball, rugby 7s, danceSport, woodball, volleyball, and athletics.
Prof. Jonas Gumiriza, the sitting Director of Bukedea Comprehensive School said being co-hosts of the 2024 FEASSA games, he aims to at least win a trophy in netball, volleyball, and danceSport.
“We became champions at the zonal championship hosted in Serere district, in that case, we have turned all our eyes to winning the national trophy,” said Gumiriza.
Robert Kisuule, the games teacher of St Mary’s Kitende, expressed confidence in his team’s ability to defend their title, emphasizing the hard work and dedication of the players.
However, Buddo Secondary School coach Jesse Assimwe acknowledged the tough competition in their group but remained optimistic about their chances, highlighting their rigorous preparation and team spirit.
During the netball draws the following schools have been grouped accordingly.
Pool-A: St Mary’s Kitende, Blessed Sacrament Kimanya, Ahmadiyya Muslim High School, Lugazi Homeland College, Hamdan Girls Secondary School, Mvara Secondary School, Mawogola High School, Rock High School Tororo, Fort Portal Secondary School and Light College Katikamu.
Pool-B: Green Light SS, Broadway High School, Dynamic SS, Y.Y Okot Memorial College, Maryhill High School, Kapchorwa Secondary School, Gombe SS, Masindi Army and Amity Secondary School
