Yusuf Awuye, the newly appointed Director of Co-Curricular Activities at Standard High School Zzana Ndejje Campus (STAHIZA), has outlined his vision for strengthening the school’s sporting and extracurricular programs.
Speaking to Vision Sport, Awuye emphasized his determination to guide STAHIZA toward winning major accolades in upcoming USSSA competitions, beginning this Thursday with the Elite Games hosted at Janan SS, Luwero Campus.
“I want to thank the STAHIZA administration and the founding body for the trust given to me in leading all types of sports in the school. My focus now is to solidify the school’s target of being a sporting powerhouse in the country,” Awuye said.
Following the Elite Games, his immediate focus will shift to the USSSA district, zonal, and national competitions, as well as preparations for the FEASSSA Games scheduled to take place in Morogoro, Tanzania.
“It should be noted that the Luweero-based institution is preparing for the 2026 Uganda Secondary School Games at all levels—district, zonal, national, East African, and global,” he added.
Headteacher Patrick Mukisa expressed confidence in Awuye’s leadership.
“I am excited about Awuye’s appointment as Director of Co-Curricular Programmes. He has come at a time when we are transitioning to provide holistic education that caters for the three domains. I have no doubt that with his experience and international exposure in sports, STAHIZA–Ndejje is bound to reach greater heights,” Mukisa said.
School proprietor Justus Mugisha described Awuye as a seasoned educationist and respected sports administrator with vast experience at both continental and international levels.
“As Director of Co-Curricular Activities, Awuye will oversee and strengthen a wide range of programmes, including football, basketball, volleyball, netball, media, music, dance and drama (MDD), debating, and science clubs. These activities are designed to complement classroom learning while nurturing talent, teamwork, creativity, discipline, and leadership among students,” Mugisha explained.
According to Mugisha, co-curricular programs at STAHIZA are compulsory, with each student dedicating a minimum of three hours weekly alongside their academic subjects. Awuye’s primary responsibility will be to coordinate these diverse programs and ensure they contribute to the school’s vision of holistic education and sporting excellence.
