The 2026 USSSA national boys' football championship came to its climax on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at Lira Town College grounds in Lira City, with Amus College School emerging as champions.

In a heavily attended derby, Amus College defeated Bukedea Comprehensive School 1–0, thanks to a goal scored by John Brian Otim in the 36th minute.

"I had mentioned earlier that my coming here to Lira City was to win the national trophy, and we have gotten it for the first time in the history of USSSA national boys' football. I want to thank the Almighty God for answering our prayers and also opening our doors to winning the national boys' trophy," said Richard Malinga, coach of Amus College School.

Malinga, who led Buddo SS to the final and won the third national trophy during the 2025 championship hosted at Ngora High School, said he had already mastered Bukedea Comprehensive's game right from the district, zonal, and now at the national level, where they managed to beat them.

"My thanks go to the school administration for the supporting hand given to the team, starting from school training, district competitions, zonal, and now at the national level. May the Almighty God bless all people behind this noble course," Malinga narrated.

Malinga added that his main focus now is the international championship, especially the East Africa Secondary School games to be hosted in Morogoro, Tanzania, in August.

Ronald Ssali, coach of Bukedea Comprehensive School, congratulated Amus College School for winning the national boys' trophy this year.

"My boys tried what it was costing to ensure they lifted the trophy, but penalty kicks are always tricky for all teams," Ssali added.

According to Ssali, the team will focus on other games ahead, mainly defending the international trophy they won last year during the FEASSSA games hosted in Kakamega, Kenya.

USSSA President Justus Mugisha said the national boys' championship hosted at Lira Town College was the best ever.

"I want to say this year's championship has been the best ever in terms of discipline. We have not received any complaint about discipline among the players," Mugisha said.

According to Mugisha, all the schools that qualified to play at the national level after the zonal level were accounted for. He also promised to continue giving Lira the opportunity to host more national games.

The closing ceremony was presided over by the Commissioner of Physical Education at the Ministry of Education and Sports, Dancan Mugumuya, who represented the State Minister of Sports, Peter Ogwang. Mugumuya encouraged players to avoid being implicated by anti-doping issues.
