Ali Sayed Lubega has been re-elected as president of the Uganda Sports Press Association (USPA) for another two-year term.

During the election held at the Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC) offices in Lugogo, Lubega emphasized his commitment to promoting the association's core values and enhancing the welfare of sports journalists.

He plans to focus on capacity building, improving USPA's public image with the corporate world and government, and advocating for the financial and legal well-being of members in their workplaces.

Lubega's previous term was marked by significant achievements, including registering USPA as a legal entity and resolving the association's financial debts. Additionally, he highlighted the association's success in expanding its national membership and securing more sponsors for monthly awards and international scholarships.

UOC president, Donald Rukare, praised USPA for its role in informing the public and encouraged members to pursue academic courses at UOC. Rukare also noted that the association has remained politically neutral and harmonious, even during election periods. Fred Sekitto, a founding member of USPA, underscored the importance of maintaining a non-political stance for the association's survival.

Other key updates from the elections include Shafik Ssenoga of New Vision, who was unopposed for the position of General Secretary, and the induction of Bukedde sports editor Kato Kawuma and Edie Khan Ssemugenyi of UBC as life members. New members of the top executive are Fransisco Bwambale and Amon Ngabo, both from UBC.
