Ahumuza wins AMCHAM Golf Open

Olivia Ahumuza cannot wait to travel to Monaco after winning the inaugural edition of the American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) Golf Open at the Lake Victoria Serena Golf Course on Saturday.

Playing off a handicap of 36, Ahumuza carded 62 nett to win the one-day championship, a feat that came with an air ticket to Europe courtesy of Brussels Airlines.

An elated Ahumuza could not hide her excitement after receiving her ticket, saying that her dream of visiting Monaco had now come true.

“I feel so excited, I have a lot of joy and happiness in my heart. My dreams have come to reality because I have always dreamt of going to Monaco and now I have a business class ticket! Shout out to the AmCham tournament, to my team-Side B, Pata Ssente, thank you for the support and opportunity, and I’m grateful,” said Ahumuza, who only started playing six months ago.

“As a golfer, I’m looking forward to many possibilities out there that are waiting for me; Monaco, I’m coming. Monaco is a luxurious playground for millionaires and you’re now talking to a millionaire,” she added excitedly.

Banza Matsiko’s 9-over 81 gross over 18 holes won him the Crowe AIA-sponsored juniors’ competition that was played concurrently. He beat Shanshank Sachin Gadre and Gavin Bwambale, who finished second and third respectively, to the top prize by three strokes.

Ariana Bholim (86), Loganathan Harsshitha (89), and Pauline Uwamaria were the top girls, while Timothy Tayebwa (43), Buka Humuza (45), and Kalton Tayebwa (46) were the best in the nine-hole competition.

Hannah Matsiko, Arianna Jenny Tumwesigye, Elizabeth Mwagale, Ketra Kankunda, Grace Mbabazi, and Precious Juliet Kobugabe also reached the podium in their respective categories.

The American Chamber of Commerce president, Meg Hilbert Jaquay, thanked the partners for supporting the event, which is going to be played annually.

The event was supported by Crowe AIA, Sheraton Hotel, Brussels Airlines, Coca-Cola, Grant Thornton, Motorcare Uganda, Marsh McLennan, Sheraton Kampala Hotel, Side B Partners, Stanbic Bank, RIM Records, Latitude Zero Degrees, Lifecare Diagnostics, and Ruby Kampala Hospital, among others.
