Vipers v SC Villa, 8pm

Forward Ivan Ahimbisibwe is rapidly establishing himself as a pivotal figure at KCCA FC, scoring for the second consecutive match to inspire his side to a 2-1 victory over Mbarara City FC on Thursday at Rwamwanja Stadium in Kamwenge District.

The win lifted KCCA to the summit of the Uganda Premier League (UPL) table with 17 points from eight matches, placing them one point ahead of SC Villa, who face champions Vipers SC on Saturday at St Mary’s Stadium Kitende.

KCCA took the lead in the 16th minute through Herbert Achayi, but the hosts responded 10 minutes later when Muhammad Kanyike levelled for Mbarara City. Ahimbisibwe then struck the decisive goal five minutes into the second half, continuing his excellent scoring form.

The striker also netted twice in KCCA’s previous outing, a 2-1 win over URA at Omondi Stadium, Lugogo, bringing his tally to five goals in eight appearances since joining the Kasasiro Boys at the start of the season. Last campaign, he scored 16 goals for the Tax Collectors.

Thursday’s match also marked the return of head coach Brian Ssenyondo to the KCCA technical area. Ssenyondo had spent a month away in Qatar, where he guided the Uganda Cubs to a historic Round of 16 finish at the U17 FIFA World Cup, the country’s first-ever appearance at a FIFA World Cup tournament.

For Mbarara City, the defeat was their fifth in eight matches. The Ankole Lions remain second from bottom in 16th place with just five points as their struggles continue.
