Against all odds: Musanabera’s hole-in-one inspires Ugandan golf and beyond

Women are amazing beings especially when they defy the odds to win prizes that are deemed impossible.

Berna Musanabera sent the Entebbe Golf club crowd into raptures as she delivered a sh126m hole in one to win the Entebbe Stanbic Matchplay Golf Qualifiers as she drove away in the Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid.

As the first person in history to succeed, she will impact the value women can bring to any sport especially golf after her heroics brought the competition for the car to a halt.

 Think about it, for 10 years the sponsor has had a hole in one prize.  For seven of those years the prize has been a car but no person had ever pulled off the feat. Many came close but Musabera who wondered what the noise and fracas was all about landed the big one on a day when many Ugandans were ironing out Valentine's Day plans.

She is not new to competition and has a history of delivering heavy blows one of her most standout ones being her partnership with Jackie Kamunyu to eliminate an all men’s pair in the first round of the same competition. 

 While many would wonder about a hole in one in golf, the difficulty and dexterity that goes into delivering the perfect shot takes determination, talent and power. It takes a special golfer to get a good drive and ensure that the ball heads directly into the cup in one stroke. For those who are not familiar with golf it can only be as good as a goalkeeper scoring off of a goal kick in football.

 It has been done before but the dopamine of such a high is one everyone at the Entebbe golf course will speak about for some time to come because that is indeed what sport should do. You would hate to be that one spectator who had taken a bathroom break or got distracted by something when the shot was made.

So many things will be true about the feat Musabera pulled off including the fact that it was probably getting boring for a sponsor who had for seven years waited on something to happen but this one is satisfactory in so many ways.

She gets to drive away in a new set of wheels whilst also inspiring others who have never achieved something that if you can keep at it, your time will come.

 She had never achieved a hole in one and was up against a few players who had achieved it but her confidence is what set her apart from the rest when it mattered the most.

Let this serve as a motivator for anyone this year. especially those who do not have a lot of faith in themselves to get up and give it a big shot every time that they can.
