Prodigy Collins Agaba stood tall on the day his side needed him most and scored the all-important goal of the day as debutantes Kaaro Karungi FC recorded their first-ever semi-professional league win with a 2-1 over Soroti City in the FUFA Big League game played Thursday at St George’s Ibanda grounds.

Agaba, who is returning from a wandering football career, having featured for and fallen out with several clubs in the region, saved the day for the hosts after the visitors had taken an early lead through Cyprian Okello’s 27th-minute strike.

Moses Kasagga then restored parity at the fully parked St George PTC grounds with a leveler 30 minutes before new signing Agaba went on the score sheet with a superb finish just at the stroke of halftime, to send the enthusiastic fans into wild cheers.

The score remained unchanged for the rest of the second stanza and the joy and happiness that the home fans had been waiting to show was seen at the final whistle.

“We are glad that we have won our first home game in this competition and this motivates the entire team and the technical staff and gives our fans a reason to celebrate and also keep with the team. We are going to build from this win so we battle for the best finish in the campaign,” Said club chairman Isma Lule.

After leading his new side to an important win on his debut, Agaba revealed he has put all his past behind him and is focusing on reviving his career.

Agaba who featured for top school sides Ryakasinga CHE and St Mary’s Kitende before helping then Citizen High School Isingiro (now Mbarara City) to promotion to the FUFA Big League in 2015, has since had a mixture of career progress with failed attempts at Nyamityobora FC, NTODA FC and Six O’Clock before finally landing a deal with Kaaro Karungi.

In other Thursday matches, National Enterprise Corporation (NEC) FC leaked the summit of the table with maximum points from 2 matches, following a 2-0 beating of former top-flight side Police FC with second-half goals by Marvin Kavuma and Julius Kazibwe doing the damage.

But Kitara FC, Luwero United, and Mbarara City, who would have joined the Kampala side on top, both failed to register wins as Kitara was held to a 2-2 draw by rivals Booma FC even when Patrick Kaddu had put the victors twice ahead at Masindi grounds.

Mbarara City was held to a 0-0 stalemate by Jinja North United FC at Kyabazinga grounds, the second draw for the hosts, while Luwero united was also held to a 1-1 to Northern Gateway in Lira.

Kataka FC recorded a 3-1 win over Calvary FC in their first game of the season played at Fufa Technical center Njeru while Lugazi beat Ndejje 3-1 for their first league win. Action gets back on Thursday next week.Agaba stars as Kaaro Karungi records first FUFA Big League win.
