The 3rd edition of the CAVB Zone V Club Championship is set to take place from Wednesday, February 26, to March 4, 2025, at Lugogo in Kampala, Uganda. The tournament has attracted 20 teams from across the region, promising an exciting showcase of volleyball talent.

The championship will feature teams from 12 countries, including Burundi, Egypt, South Sudan, Sudan, Ethiopia, Djibouti, Eritrea, Somalia, Rwanda, Kenya, Tanzania, and hosts Uganda.

Joseph Odong, chairman of the local organizing committee, praised the Ugandan government for its support in creating an ideal environment for the sport.

“I want to thank the Government of Uganda, through the National Council of Sports (NCS), for giving us the opportunity to host. We are ready to deliver a memorable experience for fans during the six-day event,” Odong said.

This marks the first major volleyball championship to be held in Kampala since Sadik Nasiwu began his second term as president of the Uganda Volleyball Federation. Nasiwu, who also serves as the President of CAVB Zone V, expressed his excitement about hosting the regional event.

“As a zone, our target is to host a cost-friendly event for the clubs in the region while providing maximum exposure for our athletes,” Nasiwu noted.

The event will also leave a lasting legacy in Uganda, according to Referee Delegate Innocent Komakech.

“For every regional event, there is always a legacy program. This time, we intend to involve our national referees as scorers and court managers, as officiating is limited to international referees only,” Komakech explained.
