NAIROBI - Dr Clet Masiga, a Ugandan scientist, has been honoured with the prestigious Policy Impact Award from Alliance for Science, a global institution dedicated to communicating science.

This was during the Future of Science Communication Forum conference which took place in Nairobi, Kenya, from February 25 to 26, 2025 to celebrate 10 years of groundbreaking achievements in advancing science communication and advocacy worldwide.

Reacting to the news, Dr Masiga, said: “This recognition is not just a personal achievement but a testament to Uganda’s growing influence in the global scientific community. It reinforces our commitment to harnessing science, technology, and innovation for sustainable development and improved livelihoods.”

Dr Masiga is the executive director of Tropical Institute of Development Innovations (TRIDI) and also minister of science, innovation and technology development in Bugisu Cultural Institition.

Masiga’s career has been defined by exceptional leadership and a steadfast commitment to ensuring that scientific research is not only conducted, but also effectively communicated and implemented at the policy level.

His efforts have facilitated numerous partnerships between researchers, policymakers, and local communities, resulting in transformative changes in agricultural practices across East Africa.

In his acceptance speech, Masiga extended his heartfelt gratitude to Alliance for Science for the recognition, acknowledging the collective effort that contributed to his work.

“This honour is not mine alone,” he said. “It is the result of the hard work, collaboration, and dedication of my incredible colleagues, the researchers, and the communities that I have had the privilege to work with. Together, we have made strides toward developing evidence-based solutions to some of the region's most critical challenges.”

Dr. Masiga also expressed deep appreciation for his family. “I am profoundly grateful to my wife Sylvia and my sons Samyl, Jireh, Jesse, and Cyprian. Your unwavering support, love, and belief in my work have been a constant source of inspiration,” he added.

Finally, Dr. Masiga took a moment to recognize the vital support of his colleagues at TRIDI.

“Thank you to all my colleagues at TRIDI for your dedication and partnership. This award reflects our collective efforts, and I look forward to continuing our work together to foster positive change in the field of agricultural innovation.”

His foresight in identifying market-relevant innovations and his skill in navigating policy environments to create enabling conditions for their adoption has generated measurable economic impact across the agricultural value chain."
