Govt courts Oman for Ugandan youth employment opportunities

The Government of Uganda is looking to Oman to help it solve the unemployment challenge of its youth.
As a move to ensure that this becomes a reality, Uganda's Minister of State of Labour, Employment, and industrial Relations has led a delegation to visit Oman.
While in Oman's capital city, Muscat, state minister Esther Anyakun held a bilateral meeting with Oman labour minister Mahad Said Ali Baawain regarding the opening up of a new market for both semi-skilled and skilled Ugandans.
They agreed to initiate an MoU to expedite the process of labour migration to officially recruit Ugandans in Oman.
Anyakun further commended and retilated the relations between the two countries and encouraged Baawain to come to Uganda and explore investment opportunities.
Anyakun and her delegation went to Muscat on April 21, 2024.
Uganda has previously signed MoUs to facilitate safe, orderly, and regular labour migration of Ugandan migrant workers with several countries, including UAE, Qatar, and some European countries.
Among the aims of these MOUs is to protect the rights of domestic workers and business owners and regulate the contractual relationship among them.
The MOUs followed increased outcry over alleged human rights abuses of Ugandan migrant workers in these countries.
