Prince Edward, The Duke of Edinburgh, is scheduled to arrive in Uganda this coming Monday (March 18) for a three-day visit.

Edward, who turned 60 last Sunday (March 10), was bestowed the title of the Duke of Edinburgh last year by his elder brother King Charles III.

He is the chair or patron of The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award, a title that  was previously held by his late father, Prince Philip, who founded the programme in 1956.

His visit to Uganda is aimed at raising awareness on the award as well as on the impact non-formal education and learning can have on young people and their communities.

During his stay in Uganda, Edward – who will be hosted by The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award - will visit selected schools and education centres.

According to a Friday press release by The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award, he will also attend the Award’s Africa regional conference to highlight the vital role non-formal education and learning can play on a young person’s development and to discuss the sustainability of the Award in the Africa region.

The Duke of Edinburgh is scheduled to have an engaging stay in Uganda

The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award-Uganda is a non-formal education and learning framework that encourages young people to find their purpose, passion and place in the world. 

It currently delivers the Award to more than 6,000 young people across the country.

While here in Uganda, The Duke of Edinburgh will also interact with Ugandan youth leaders who are making a positive impact in Uganda in the climate, IT, women empowerment and entrepreneurship space. 

These interactions are intended to help him gain a better appreciation and understanding of the impact they have on the communities. 

The youth the visiting prince will interact with are considered game changers and future influencers in Uganda.
