Climate change is one of the challenges facing humanity in this modern age, as the earth’s near-surface temperatures continue to rise.
Vulnerable populations, mainly the poor and marginalised; including children, women, and people with disabilities, are not equipped to cope with the adverse effects of climate change.
The average temperature in semi-arid climates in Uganda is rising, as a result, the malaria parasite is spreading into new areas of the country.
Furthermore, changing temperature patterns in Uganda have been linked to more frequent and longer-lasting dry spells. Rainfall has decreased and become less predictable.
I, therefore, call on the Government to promote sustainable development and a green economy to address climate change in Uganda.
The other step is to support the integration of climate change issues into planning, decision-making, and investments.
Furthermore, the Government should provide adequate support for policies and programmes that take into account the interaction between population dynamics, climate change, and development.
