Odongo said: “Today, we are faced with several challenges, including armed conflicts in different parts of the world, food insecurity, migration, unemployment, pandemics, climate change, and terrorism that we need to focus on.”

The minister was opening the meeting of senior officials of the 19th NAM Summit of Heads of State and Government at Munyonyo Convention Centre in Kampala.

The summit, which started on Monday, January 15, 2024, will run up to January 20.

The senior officials’ meeting preceded the ministerial session and that of the heads of NAM member states slated for today.

The theme of this year’s summit is Deepening Co-operation for Shared Global Affluence.

“We recognise challenges in financing for development and the issue of debt burden that paints a depressing global economic outlook. It is, therefore, crucial for us to address existing, new, and emerging issues collectively and in the interest of our membership,” Odongo explained.
