In anticipation of the upcoming Labor Day celebrations scheduled for Wednesday, May 1, 2024, Police in Fort Portal city have intensified their vigilance and deployment.

Deputy Police spokesperson Clare Nabakka says heightened security measures have been implemented, including the identification of hotspots and high-risk areas within Fort Portal where the main event is slated to occur.

She was addressing the media on Monday, April 29, 2024, during the joint weekly security briefing in Kampala.

With the anticipation of numerous dignitaries in attendance, Nabakka emphasized the importance of community vigilance and urged residents to promptly report suspicious individuals or items to security authorities.

This proactive approach aims to ensure the safety and security of all participants and attendees during the Labor Day festivities in Fort Portal.

Eight tips on reporting suspicious persons and items

1. Trust Your Instincts: If something or someone seems out of place or suspicious, trust your gut feeling and report it to the authorities.

2. Observe Behaviour: Pay attention to the behaviour of individuals around you. Look out for signs of nervousness, unusual movements, or suspicious activities.

3. Note Appearance: Take note of the appearance of suspicious persons, including clothing, accessories, and any distinguishing features that could aid in identification.

4. Document Details: Discreetly take photos or videos of the suspicious person or item, ensuring to capture clear and relevant details without putting yourself in danger.

5. Report Immediately: Do not hesitate to report suspicious persons or items to the nearest authorities or law enforcement agencies as soon as possible.

6. Provide Location: Communicate the location of the suspicious activity or item, including landmarks or nearby establishments, to assist authorities in responding swiftly.

7. Describe Behaviour: Provide a detailed description of the suspicious person's behaviour or actions, including any interactions with others or attempts to conceal their identity.

8. Stay Safe: While reporting suspicious activity, prioritize your safety by maintaining a safe distance and avoiding confrontation with potentially dangerous individuals.
