KAMPALA - The recent Non-Aligned Summit in Kampala became a diplomatic extravaganza, where global leaders engaged in robust discussions while savouring an opulent five-course silver service dinner at Sri Lanka’s High Commissioner to Uganda and accredited to 24 countries, aslo the permanent representative of UNEP and UN Habitat, Kana V Kananathan’s residence in Kololo in honour of the President of Sri Lanka, Ranil Wickremesinghe.
The Summit of the Heads of State and Government of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) and the Group of 77 (G77) and China recently concluded in Kampala, Uganda.
The summits which ran from January 18 to 22, witnessed significant participation from numerous countries, fostering dialogue and collaboration on critical global issues.
The guest list read like a who’s who of international dignitaries, and the Ugandan business community creating an evening of diplomatic camaraderie against the picturesque backdrop of Uganda’s capital.
Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe enjoyed the spotlight during the exclusive event, attended by high-profile figures from Uganda, Sri Lanka, and around the globe.
Notable attendees of the gathering included a star-studded lineup, from the Prime Minister, Chief Justice of Uganda, health minister, minister in charge of general duties at the Office of the Prime Minister and the former Prime Minister of Uganda, Amama Mbabazi.
Other global VVIPs included the vice president of the Republic of Benin, deputy prime minister of Mali, foreign ministers of Mali, Burkina Faso, Seychelles, Benin, Bangladesh, Palestine, Indonesia and the minister of information, communication, and technology of the Philippines.
The gala was a melting pot of cultural exchange and meaningful conversations, symbolising a collective commitment to a stronger Africa and global cooperation.
Beyond formal summit discussions, Sri Lanka’s High Commissioner Kananathan demonstrated dedication to international collaboration, turning the evening into a platform for valuable networking among leaders.
The event showcased Kananathan’s commitment to elevating Sri Lanka’s global presence and strengthening ties between Uganda and Sri Lanka.
The culinary experience was a highlight, with a meticulously curated five-course Arabic feast from Sheraton Kampala Hotel.
The security, entrusted to the Presidential Guard Brigade of Uganda, ensured a seamless and secure environment for this high-profile gathering.
The presence of influential figures underscored the importance of collaborative efforts in addressing global challenges and fostering international goodwill.
