After dominating Uganda Rugby, the Black Pearls Women's Rugby Club will seek matches against Kenyan clubs.

This is intended to avoid complacency since they may be in a comfortable seat thinking they are the best.

Club coach Helen Buteme disclosed this to Vision Group after her side 60-12 smashing of Nile Rapids at the Kings Park Arena in Bweyogerere to seal their league title defense unbeaten on May 18, 2024.

“This is our third consecutive league title, but that does not mean we are satisfied. The commitment of the girls and we now turn the focus to the national 7s title,” Buteme said.

The engineering firm Lone Africa sponsored team has won 7 consecutive national 7s titles and three consecutive league titles in the 15s version of the sport.

“We have won the National 7s title for seven consecutive years, but we still need it, and we are going for it. However, to avoid that complacency that we are the best, we are going to seek games with Kenyans sides to test us,” she said.

Buteme cited top clubs Mwamba and Impala women rugby clubs as the Kenyan sides to face if resources are available.

Last year, Black Pearls visited Impala rugby which they defeated at home breaking their record of not losing at home for a period.

Black Pearls player Emily Lekuru emerged as the top try Scorer of the league with 69 tries and Charlotte Mudoola was the golden book winner.

Nile Rapids Minat Namono emerged as the league’s Most Valuable player.

Six teams including Thunderbirds from Kyadondo Rugby Club, Black Pearls from Legends Rugby Club, Entebbe Avengers, Ewes from Makerere, Nile Rapid from Jinja, and She Wolves from Mbale participated in this year’s league.

The teams will start preparations for the national 7s circuit later this year with other players paying attention to the national women's team preparations for the Africa women's 7s tournament in Tunisia in October and November.
