For long, Lugogo Cricket Oval has been seen as the yardstick for how successful an artiste is when it comes to drawing revellers for concerts.

On Friday, May 10, western Uganda artiste Ray G showed his prowess in Kampala as he pulled off one the most successful musical shows to ever happen at Lugogo Cricket Oval in terms of numbers.

Revellers started flocking to the venue as early as 3:00pm with a number of them getting off buses that had come straight from Mbarara.

Durin interviews with some of them,  they said they wanted to make a statement in Uganda's entertainment scene, but most importantly, to show the love they have for Ray G.

At 9:30pm, the lights went out and the band started playing. Anticipation of Ray G's arrival started mounted. Well, it only that lasted for five minutes before he stepped on stage and started right away with his Hihi song that set the ground running in what turned out to be a great perfomance.

Three songs into his perfomance, he paused and revellers started chanting his name. It was at this moment that he thanked Ugandans for showing him love by supporting him in huge numbers.

He called his concert a total shut down of Lugogo Cricket Oval compparing it to a total lockdown that happened in 2020.

Ray G continued with his perfomance going on to sing songs such as Nikwesiga, Chubby, Izoba and Ringaniza, before he took a break to allow other artistes a chance to perfom.

Unlike many artistes that go into the tents during breaks to change arttires, Ray G instead went to the VVIP section to greet guests that included the family members, Deputy Speaker of Parliament Thomas Tayebwa and MPs.

After the 20-minutes break, Ray G came back donning the same attire and welcomed the Speaker and other Members of Parliament on stage to wave to the revellers.

This second set of perfomance saw him perfom a number of his collaborations with Ziza Bafana, Levixone and Truth.

During most parts of his perfomances, what was  observed was his willingness to manage time as on many occasions he was seen telling the man on drums to quicken up  things mostly when artists he was perfoming collaborations with didn't want to leave stage.

In what had to be his last set of perfomance, Ray G only removed a coat and remained in a vest while on stage. This set had him sing songs such as Owangye, Rukundo, Murebe, Weeshe and Omusheshe his collaboration with Spice Diana before he ending with his mega hit song Forever in which he features Megato.

Comedian and Tv West's Mc Kachaina along with Mc Kacheche vibed up the audience with their great stage management.

Before Ray G, artistes from Western Uganda such as Ratsa Charz, TV West's Simba Jike, T Paul, Fact Zamani, Gboy Revinz and many others.

It was not only a music show but a celebration of Western Uganda's culture.
Overall, it was a great musical show apart from the lack of proper crowd control that saw a number of them jump over the barricades causing a little bit of commotion.

The show went on upto a half past midnight.
