Police are seeking shillings 362 billion to make preparations for the 2026 general elections.

Police Force undersecretary Aggrey Wunyi made the revelation while appearing before the defence and internal affairs parliamentary committee on March 21, 2024.

The force was appearing before the MPs to table their shillings 832.2 billion budget for the next financial year.

Wunyi informed the MPs that elections are slated for January 2026 and as a force, they need to make early preparations to avoid shocks that come with elections such as unlawful riots.

According to him, they require shillings 362 billion for this activity. However, they need only shillings 181 billion for the upcoming financial year to enable them kick start the process with recruitment and training of personnel, and initiate procurement of general purpose transport equipment and specialised machinery and equipment.

Wunyi has also informed the MPs that their funding gap for the next financial year is feeding, 43 billion, staff uniforms 80 billion and investigations 50 billion.
