Uganda Airlines has got a new 160-seater aircraft from Global Airlines on a wet-lease arrangement to augment its operations.

It announced on Thursday that the Airbus A320 plane joining its fleet of six aircraft for six months has a two-class cabin featuring 12 business class and 138 economy seats.

Uganda Airlines, which started in 2019 to provide scheduled air transportation services in East Africa and near-international markets, said this on X, formerly Twitter while welcoming passengers aboard the new plane.

A typical wet lease arrangement means a plane is “ready to use” with crew, maintenance and insurance provided by the lessor airline.

Uganda Airlines is the country’s flagship national passenger and cargo carrier whose vision is to be a world-class airline exceeding customer expectations, through high-quality service, global connectivity, and commitment to excellence.

Its chief executive officer Jennifer Bamuturaki told the media in March this year that the new aircraft would also pave the way for more route openings. 

“We are going to put this aircraft on certain routes where we were using the CRJ and having weight challenges like Johannesburg.  We hope to see an increase in our numbers,” she said.
