IGANGA - Traffic along the Jinja–Iganga highway was brought to a standstill for about 20 minutes as Police attempted to block a convoy of over 100 vehicles from accessing Iganga district via the main road.

Unlike the previous two days, security today, October 1, 2025, is significantly heightened with both state security forces and the Opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) security teams visibly present.

Supporters could be heard chanting slogans like: We are the original Opposition — mujja tuwulira!, as tensions grew.

A major standoff occurred at the CMS junction, where the FDC security team, led by party president Patrick Oboi Amuriat, clashed with the Police over the convoy’s route.

The confrontation led to widespread traffic disruption, affecting vehicles travelling in both directions between Jinja and Iganga.

Tension began to ease after Police allowed some vehicles to proceed, relieving pressure on the busy highway.

Presidential candidate Nandala Mafabi, a key figure in FDC, was joined by party leaders from Iganga district, who bolstered the convoy ahead of what is being described as a grand entrance into the town.

He is scheduled to address three mini rally points before culminating in a major rally in Iganga Town later in the day.
