The race which attracted seven riders, all women from Bugadde, started at about 3:30 pm at Bugadde Primary School in Bunhole-Bunhanhumba chiefdom in Mayuge district on Saturday.

Women rode their bicycles on the dusty roads under the scorching heat to Bukoba, Bugadde town council, and back to Bugadde Primary School where they finished.

The race was part of the activities to climax the unveiling of new two tourist sites which included Isenda and Busiira Heritage Hill sites in Bunhole-Bunhanhumba chiefdom.

The sites were unveiled by First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of East Africa Community Affairs, Rebecca Kadaga who was accompanied by Busoga Kingdom’s Tourism Minister Hellen Namutamba and Bunhole-Bunhanhumba chief Muzamiru Bukumunhe.

Immaculate Naigaga, a sweet potato seller in the Bugadde market emerged winner and was followed by Noweri Nakisuyi who emerged second, and Leah Naigaga came in third position.

“I did not get any challenges while racing. I started in position number one as we set off and I maintained it up to the end of the race.” Naigaga who was seen breathing heavily after passing the finish line said.

Meanwhile, a football match also was organized between Labela Vita FC and Makula FC where Labella beat Makula 2-0. All goals were scored by Muzafaru Mukama and was crowned Most Valuable Player (MVP).

Kadaga handed over cash prizes to winners of the bicycle race and football match. She also handed over jerseys and balls to both teams.

She promised to support Naigaga in her business after finding out what she was doing to earn a living.
