Three arrested in violent clash between supporters of Igara West aspirants

BUSHENYI - Police in Bushenyi District have arrested three individuals in connection with a case of alleged malicious damage to property and assault, following a violent incident that occurred on July 11, 2025, in Katimba Village, Rushinya Parish, Kakanju Sub-county.

According to preliminary investigations, the chaos erupted during a campaign rally held by Boniface Tugume, an aspiring Member of Parliament for Igara West.

Tugume's motor vehicle, a Mercedes-Benz ML Class, registration number UBQ 415C, was reportedly attacked by an individual who threw stones at it.

His camp alleges that the attackers were "commanded"  by one of his political rivals vying for the same seat.

he glass of his trunk door was all shattered in the attack.

The other four candidates contesting for the Igara West parliamentary seat are: Kahigi Paul, Cohen Kyampene, Asimire Mackline and Dan Nikwesiga alias Gwanga Mujje.

By Saturday evening, detectives were investigating the matter. The three arrested after the attack remain in police detention.

The suspects are Loyce Komujuni, 38, Mark Twinomujuni, 20,  and Ezra Tugume, 32.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Apollo Tayebwa, the Acting Police Spokesperson for Greater Bushenyi, confirmed the arrests and called for calm during the ongoing electoral period.
