The National Resistance Movement (NRM) mobiliser for the Teso subregion, Teddy Acam, has urged party flag bearers to present realistic and achievable manifestos as they seek voter support ahead of the 2026 general elections.
Acam said candidates should avoid making promises they cannot fulfil and instead focus on issues they are confident can be delivered. She also encouraged communities to elect capable leaders who are willing to work closely with government structures.
She made the remarks as several NRM candidates, including Isaac Orego, MP aspirant for Soroti City East, Sarah Inachu, Woman MP aspirant for Soroti city, and Abdul Latif, mayoral aspirant for Soroti City East, held joint campaigns in Aloet and Camp Swahili wards in Soroti City East.
Some residents, including Veronica Angimo and Richard Okulla, expressed concern that leaders often abandon the community after elections.
They cited persistent challenges such as inadequate electricity supply, poor road conditions, and the absence of a health centre in Aloet.
Responding to the concerns, NRM flag bearer for Soroti City East, Isaac Orego, appealed to the electorate to entrust him with the mandate, saying he intends to improve health services, education and other social needs in line with government priorities.
Another aspirant, Rodney Akongel Mukula, who is also seeking the Soroti City East MP seat, pledged to focus on three key pillars: economic empowerment, service delivery and good governance if elected.
Meanwhile, Moses Attan, who is contesting for the same seat on the FDC ticket, said he joined politics because of the hardships faced by ordinary citizens, including poor health services, challenges faced by single mothers, lack of educational opportunities for children and limited accommodation for health workers.
Attan lost to NRM's Herbert Edmund Ariko in the Soroti East by-election held in July 2022. Ariko garnered 9,407 votes against Attan’s 8,771 votes, while Uganda Peoples’ Congress-UPC candidate, Pascal Amuriat, got 115 votes.
