The leadership of the State House Diaspora Unit met Electoral Commission (EC) chairperson Justice Simon Byabakama.
The Thursday, March 28, 2024, meeting took place at his offices in the Industrial Area, Kampala where they had fruitful discussions, according to a press release.
Among the lengthy discussions, the statement says they contemplated the right to vote by the diaspora and the different legal mechanisms to be employed for a smooth and fair electoral process come 2026 and beyond.
Justice Byabakama and the team from State House agreed to work together with other agencies wherein they cited the internal affairs ministry and that of foreign affairs with several issues that affect the diaspora that need to be addressed. These issues include the processing of national identity cards for them, passports, issues of duo-citizenship and registration.
Justice Byabakama also thanked the team from State House led by Bagonza Mohammed and Henry Wabyona for visiting him and promised to work together with other stakeholders in the Government to ensure quality service delivery in the forthcoming elections.
