Ruhinda North Member of Parliament Thomas Tayebwa has said he will wait for guidance from President Yoweri Museveni regarding the position of deputy speaker in the 12th Parliament.
Tayebwa, who has served as the Deputy Speaker in the 11th parliament, said he remains committed to serving the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM). Tayebwa was on Friday sworn in as a Member of Parliament for the 12th parliament.
Asked whether he still has interest in the position of deputy speaker of Parliament, Tayebwa said his political journey within Parliament has largely been shaped by the trust and opportunities given to him by President Museveni.
Tayebwa credited Museveni for elevating him through key positions in government and Parliament.
“I want to thank the President, who first gave me an opportunity to serve as Government Chief Whip, and after that, promoted me to serve as Deputy Speaker. Now my duty as a true cadre of the party is to wait for further instructions from him,” Tayebwa said.
His remarks come at a time when political tension has intensified over the leadership of the 12th Parliament following the withdrawal of Anita Among from the Speakership race.
