Six nomination centres have been established in Tororo district to manage the expected influx of candidates vying for LC3 chairperson and councillor positions, according to Charles Egimu, the district election returning officer.

The move is designed to streamline the nomination process and prevent potential congestion. The district, which encompasses 42 lower local government administrative units, will utilise a decentralised approach.

The district Electoral Commission offices will serve as nomination centres, with specific locations designated for different areas. Tororo municipality’s two divisions will use the district electoral commission office as a nomination centre.

The subcounties of West Budama Central will hold nominations at the Mulanda centre, while Iyolwa T/C will be the designated centre for West Budama South subcounties. Kisoko will oversee nominations for West Budama North and North East subcounties, Osukuru for Tororo County South, and Mukuju for Tororo County North.

"We anticipate a large number of aspirants. These multiple nomination centres are crucial to ensure a smooth and efficient process. This is to minimise congestion and maintain order, adhering to all the district guidelines," Egimu stated.

Egimu emphasised the importance of candidates adhering to the rule of only two nominees present at any one time. He stressed that any misconduct during the nomination process could lead to disqualification.

"We are committed to conducting a fair and transparent nomination process, and for that case, strict adherence to the guidelines set for nomination is paramount. The health and safety of all individuals at the centres is our top priority as well," Egimu added.

The district election commission has also prepared additional measures to manage the process, including arrangements for security and logistical support at each location.

This expanded infrastructure will help avoid potential delays and ensure a more orderly nomination period.

The nomination for LC3 chairpersons and their councillors commenced today, Thursday (September 11), and concludes on September 24, 2025. Aspirants are urged to adhere to the established guidelines to ensure a successful and orderly nomination period.
