LAMWO - Lamwo district LC5 chairperson Sisto Oyet Ocen has won the National Resistance Movement (NRM) primaries to retain the flag ahead of the 2026 general election amid allegations of vote rigging from his contender, Jimmy Amone.
Oyet garnered 15,900 votes against Amone’s 15,053.
Ruling National Resistance Movement party yesterday, July 24, 2025, held its local government council primaries (for division mayors, Lord mayor, municipality mayors, LC3 chairperson, town council/municipal division mayor, directly elected councillors at the district, municipal and sub-county level and woman councillor at district, municipal and subcounty level) across the whole country in over 70,000 villages.
The primaries followed the ones of Member of Parliament held a week earlier.
Amone protested the results, citing discrepancies in the number of voters who cast their votes and the figures recorded in the official voter registers, delaying the declaration of the results as his supporters and agents had become violent.
The Police calmed the situation moments later.
However, the district party registrar, Denis Osborn Okwera, declared the final results at around 10:50 pm.
