There is a sigh of relief among the voters in Pukoo sub-county, Pader district, after one of the voters, who was abducted by unknown people on July 23, 2025, was released this morning (July 24).

Benson Mark Oyoo, was reportedly abducted at around 11:00pm while on his way home, according to eyewitnesses.

Sub-county chairperson Richard Ojwini confirmed receiving information about Oyoo’s abduction and torture by unknown people, reportedly travelling in a white pickup.

He revealed that Oyoo was later freed at around 3:00am today and that he is currently nursing injuries sustained from the torture.



Pader District Police Commander Jackson Bugeri said his office has not yet received any information regarding the incident.

He also emphasised their readiness for today’s NRM party primaries. Ruling party NRM is today conducting the primary elections for flag-bearers across the country in 72,000 villages for district chairpersons, city mayors, city division mayors, district councillors, and city councillors, among others.

Pader has three contestants for the district chairperson’s party flag for the 2026 general election. They include Godfrey Oringa Largo, Alfred Akena, and the incumbent, Fearless Oyat Obwoya.

A week ago, the party conducted internal elections for Member of Parliament seat of various constituencies.
