The newly refurbished Mandela National Stadium (Namboole) will host the games between BUL versus Vipers and KCCA versus SC Villa in the Uganda Premier League.

The two matches that are scheduled for Wednesday next week will serve as part of the test events before the official re-opening of the stadium.

The test events are some of the requirements by CAF before the facility is given the green light to host international games.

The facility has been closed for more than three years and the Cranes had resorted to playing home games abroad as Uganda had no facility that could meet international standards.

Uganda is expected to host Botswana on June 3 and Algeria a week later in the World Cup qualifiers and there was a bit of worry that the national soccer side yet again was to host the games abroad. However, it’s not known after the test matches that CAF will officially approve the facility.

Failure to complete Namboole Stadium within the scheduled time was to affect Uganda’s prospects of hosting the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and the African Nations Championship (CHAN) tournament this year.

This comes after two weeks ago when the Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among visited the facility and commended Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF) for work done. Earlier Parliament tasked finance state minister Hon. Amos Lugoloobi, to release the remaining sh17 b of the sh97b to have works completed.
