LUWERO - The heavy downpour a few minutes to the arrival of the National Resistance Movement candidate, Gen. Yoweri Museveni spoiled the mood but soon after, the already fired crowd regathered and cheered their candidate when he turned up to launch his campaign trail in Luwero district, bringing back the bush war memories when he launched the bush war campaign in the same district almost 45 years ago.
Accompanied by the First Lady, Mrs Janet Museveni, the President was received at Bukalasa Agriculture College in Wobulenzi, Luwero district by big shots in the government, including the first national deputy NRM chairman, Al Hajji Moses Kigongo, speaker of parliament Annet Anita Among, NRM Secretary General Richard Todwong, among others.

On his X account, the President wrote, "Maama Janet and I spent Day 1 of the campaigns in Luwero, and I took the opportunity to update the bazzukulu (grand children) on the NRM’s achievements since taking over government and to share our vision for poverty alleviation".

"From the time we stood with their parents in Luwero to today, I can proudly say that Uganda has transformed. The only thing left for us to do is to loosen the grip of poverty by utilising government programs". The President highlighted key achievements that include:
• UPE Schools, for which he said the number has increased from 30 in 1986 to 488 today.
• Speaking about health centres, he says, they have expanded from five in 1986 to 88 now.
• Clean water points have also grown from 27 in 1986 to over 2,000 today, with 1,371 in Luwero alone.

He explains that under the PDM funding, Luwero has been allocated sh72b.
"As I have always said, the NRM is not just about fighters; we are also peacemakers. We’ve tackled significant issues, including the challenges of fees in UPE and USE schools, the misuse and theft of drugs in government health centres, and land problems".
He adds, "I urge everyone to continue supporting the NRM so that together we can build a modern Uganda".

The President invited the loser of the NRM district woman MP loser, Susan Nakawuki and offered to take her to Kampala in his convoy with four of her people to convince her not to stand against the flag bearer, Agnes Kirabo. He promised to broker between the two to avoid dividing the NRM vote.
At the end of the rally, the President posed for photos with the religious leaders who attended the function and flag bearers in the district. Before the President arrived, a number of artists entertained the supporters, including General Mega Dee, Gravity Omutujju, Bebe Cool, Eddy Kenzo, Fred Ssebbaale, Willy Mukaabya, Kajubi Kibijjigiri, among others.
