As Uganda inches closer to the 2026 general elections, the Soroti district police commander, Moses Olang, has issued a strong warning against election-related violence.

His statement follows the alleged assault of Soroti County MP Patrick Aeku during the recent NRM parliamentary primaries.

"Elections should be peaceful. Those who win should celebrate responsibly, and those who lose must accept the outcome and move on."

Olang stressed that security forces will not tolerate any acts of violence or provocation during the election season.

He urged voters, supporters, and political actors to exercise restraint, maintain peace, and respect the law as the nomination period begins.

Last month, four suspects were arrested by police in Soroti in connection with the alleged assault that occurred on July 17, 2025, at the PAG polling station in Omodoi parish, Ocokican sub-county.

The case was registered under CRB 163/2025.
