Police hold six over Kibuku tortured girl

By Tuesday afternoon, those held in custody included: Higenyi Jaberi, a 50-year-old uncle to the teenager, Nantege Yusufu,  Wapesa Muhammad, Lumans Jaberi, Koosu Uthuman, and Wasereye Issa.  

Police in Kibuku district have arrested the suspected perpetrators accused of involvement in an incident where a teenager was severely beaten for disobeying her parents.

KIBUKU - Police in Kibuku district have arrested the suspected perpetrators accused of involvement in an incident where a teenager was severely beaten for disobeying her parents.

The incident was captured on video by unknown persons who shared it on social media, attracting disapproval and eventual arrest of several people.

"Police in Kibuku district picked interest into the matter to rescue the victim and arrested the perpetrators who were directly involved in this evil act of a helpless and innocent female," Bukedi police spokesperson Samuel Semewo said.

"Following the circulation of this video, we moved fast and picked some people in one family in Kibuku district which involved in the brutal assault of 18-year-old Shakira Naula.

"It is alleged that her family in  Bwase 1 village, Bugolya Parish, Kadama sub county Kibuku district, participated in this case of assault," he added.

Preliminary investigations indicate that Shakira who is known to be a Muslim decided to fellowship at the Kibuku prayer convention church in Kadama town council in Kibuku district.

Naula stays with her aunt Musenero Ziyadi since her mother travelled to Saudi Arabia where she is reportedly employed as a domestic servant.

Musenero is among the suspects currently in police custody, police said on case number SD Ref; 13/22/04/2024.

Bukedi spokesman adds that following the video alert, Kibuku security team led by RDC Kibuku accompanied by DPC Kibuku rushed to the scene at Naula's home. 

During the operation, seven suspects were arrested to assist in the investigation and the victim was also rescued.

By Tuesday afternoon, those held in custody included: Higenyi Jaberi, a 50-year-old uncle to the teenager, Nantege Yusufu,  Wapesa Muhammad, Lumans Jaberi, Koosu Uthuman, and Wasereye Issa.  

All the suspects are currently detained at Kibuku police station are all Naula's close relatives.
