The state minister for industry, David Bahati, has told born-again Christians that the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Government will continue to guarantee them the freedom of worship.

He said that the incidents of banning some religious groups that were experienced in the 1970s cannot occur again under the NRM government.

The minister also applauded gospel artists for using their talent in music to help others and encouraged many young people with different talents to use them for their personal development and the glory of God.

He was making remarks as the guest of honor at a live gospel charity concert organized by renowned gospel artist, Immaculate Atuhairwe at Fresh Fire Deliverance Ministries Church at Bulange Nabulagala in Rubaga Division.

They included Pastor Wilson Bugembe, Joseph Ngoma, Twina Herbert, Sarah Sserumaga, Justine Nabbosa, Simon Mirembe, Milly Flavor, Joy Hossana, Judith Bills and Jean Peace. Others are Lena Price, John Kiguli, Peace Mbabazi, the Clays Family, Julie Deborah, and Esta Mugisha, among others.

Atuhairwe said she was called by the Lord to help the needy and vulnerable children, many of whom were orphans living with poor grandparents who could not fully provide for themselves.

She said she too grew up an orphan and is looking after over 300 children in Zirobwe, Luwero, and Ibanda districts by paying their school fees and offering them clothing and other home necessities.

She declared that the proceeds of her concerts would go to her charity and appealed to her fans and well-wishers to help vulnerable children get a decent living.

“It is a big task to raise money to sponsor all these children, but I also have many friends who are willing to help me,” she told the guests on Sunday.

She surprised many when she revealed that because of her calling, she was giving priority to her charity and sometimes she delays paying fees for her own children and instead spends the money on other children.

“One time my daughter missed three examination papers because she had not cleared school fees, yet I had paid fees for another child who equally needed to stay at school,” she revealed.

In appreciation for her story, Bahati said such people of God like Atuhaire should be supported because they use their talents to help others.

She commended her for glorifying God but also intervening in the plight of the vulnerable children.

“Atuhaire’s testimony of her humble beginning is a testimony of so many people, it tells us that one’s background does not determine his or her destiny, that God is the captain of our destiny,” the minister said, adding that Atuhaire has been occasionally lighting the
Parliamentary Fellowship with her music when they meet every Thursday.

Pastor Bugembe pledged to continue supporting young talents in gospel music saying it plays a big part in people’s soul development, saying Gospel music is escorted by the power of God to heal and restore souls.

“Even people who are secular play gospel music when they face tough times,” he said and called on people to help Atuhaire realize her dream of looking after vulnerable children.

The function was co-sponsored by Pastor Twaha Muzira and his wife Harriet.

The concert was attended by many Pastors and other Church ministers including Pastor Samuel Kasanka, a senior minister of ‘Winning with Christ Ministries International’.
