With less than a week to the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party primary elections, candidates in Gulu City have been warned against violence.
The warning was issued by security officials during a stakeholders meeting held yesterday in the City Health boardroom.
The Gulu Deputy Resident City Commissioner in charge of Laroo –Pece Division, Peter Banya, said they have received numerous complaints of intrigue, hate speech, counter accusations, and vulgarism among the candidates during the ongoing campaigns, something likely to mar the primary elections slated for July 17, 2025.
He warned the candidates to desist from such acts.
The Deputy Fourth Division Commander, Brig. Jackson Kayanja, however, asked the candidates to stick to the guidelines issued to them by the party, in a bid to have peaceful elections.
Meanwhile, the Aswa West Region Police Commander, Fred Ahimbisibwe, revealed that they are closely monitoring the election process and shall intervene in case they note a security concern.
David Nyeko, the party Registrar for Gulu City, said the primary elections shall be peaceful and that the candidates as well as the voters should adhere to the set guidelines.
