KAMPALA - National Resistance Movement (NRM) members across the country have been urged to support the building of the party’s permanent headquarters.

NRM's western region vice-chairperson Eng. Asiimwe Jonard describes the project as a defining step in strengthening the Movement’s institutional future.

Asiimwe, who is also the head of the construction project, in a message directed to party cadres and supporters, called for collective participation in the construction effort, saying the initiative requires unity and commitment from members at all levels of the party structure.

“This is not just a construction project; it is the institutionalisation of our revolution. Every cadre has a role to play in ensuring that the Movement builds a permanent foundation for future generations,” he said.

As the head of the project, Asiimwe urged NRM leaders from villages to the national level to mobilise support and resources toward the project, emphasising that the headquarters would serve as a central hub for coordination, ideology, and leadership development.

“To every member of the Movement, this is our collective responsibility. Supporting this project means safeguarding the values that brought stability and transformation to Uganda,” he said.

He added that contributors were investing in the long-term continuity of the party rather than simply financing infrastructure.

“You are not financing concrete and steel; you are investing in continuity, discipline, and national purpose,” Asiimwe noted.

According to Asiimwe, the proposed Movement House will be constructed at Plot 10, Kyadondo Road in Kampala city. The construction of the party structure is estimated to cost shillings 89.6 billion, and construction is expected to start in March.

The 15-storey building is expected to house key party departments, meeting facilities, and offices for top leadership, leagues, and administrative units, research units, and heritage spaces preserving the history of the liberation struggle.

Asiimwe said, the facility will also function as a training ground for young leaders, helping in still patriotism and ideological clarity among Uganda’s largely youthful population.

“With the majority of Ugandans being young, structured political education is essential to sustain informed leadership and national stability,” he said.

Asiimwe credited President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for promoting institutional development within the party, saying the construction of a permanent headquarters reflects a transition from a liberation movement to a structured political institution.

“Revolutions that fail to institutionalise themselves risk fading away. The Movement House ensures our ideals endure beyond individuals,” he said.

He described the project as a symbol of endurance and confidence, intended to anchor the NRM’s ideological mission while strengthening internal coordination and mobilisation.

“The revolution has matured. Now it must build structures that preserve memory, sharpen strategy, and guide the next generation,” he said.
