President Yoweri Museveni is Tuesday, December 16, 2025, campaigning for his seventh elected term in office in the districts of Kyankwanzi and Kiboga, his traditional strongholds.
Addressing a massive crowd at Kasambya town council in Mubende district on Monday, on his first day of the Buganda tour, Museveni dismissed claims that Buganda supported the Opposition in the previous elections, describing the allegations as false and a result of cheating.
He said the Government has since strengthened the voting process by introducing biometric verification, including fingerprint confirmation for every voter, to eliminate vote rigging.
By the time of writing this story, he was set to hold his first rally of the day in Kyankwanzi at Butemba College School playground before proceeding to Saza Grounds in Kiboga for his second and final political event.
Kyankwanzi, which is cosmopolitan, was carved out of Kiboga in July 2010 to enable the Government to bring services closer to the people.
It has a population of 278,432 people scattered across 21 sub-counties, while Kiboga has 173,163 residents living in 14 sub-counties.
In the last general election, Kyankwanzi had 108,311 registered voters, and out of these, 67,865 (62.7%) voted.
Museveni, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party Presidential candidate in the 2026 general election, polled 39,859 (61.6%) in Kyankwanzi in 2021, while his main opponent, Robert Kyagulanyi of the National Unity Platform party, garnered 24,529 (37.5%).
Kyankwanzi now has 133,655 registered voters, an increase of 25,344. The polling stations also increased to 338, up from 255 in 2021.
Kiboga had 81,434 registered voters in the last general election, and out of these, 50,629 (62.3%) voted.
Museveni got 24,254 (49.9%) votes while Kyagulanyi polled 23,764 (48.9%).
