President Yoweri Museveni Tuesday (November 11), took his vote hunt to the hilly districts of Kween and Kapchorwa, which are still reeling from the aftermath of devastating landslides.

The recent landslides, triggered by heavy rainfall, affected multiple villages in Kween, Kapchorwa and Bukwo, where Museveni held his first rally yesterday, marking the start of his campaign trail in the Sebei sub-region.

Several people were killed, and the Kapchorwa–Bukwo Road was cut off, isolating communities and disrupting transport.

This has left local leaders and residents of the mountainous terrain calling for aid from the Government and the Uganda Red Cross Society.

On November 7, 2025, Museveni vowed to work at full steam to relocate families facing landslide danger in the Mt Elgon area.

Bukwo and Kween were both carved out of Kapchorwa in July 2005 and July 2010, respectively, to bring services closer to the people.

Kween has a population of 129,277 people scattered across 19 sub-counties and 642 villages, while Kapchorwa is inhabited by 133,621 people living in 15 sub-counties and 641 villages.

In the 2021 general election, Kween had 47,080 registered voters; of these, 33,722 (74.6%) voted. Museveni, who is seeking re-election on the National Resistance Movement party ticket in the 2026 general election, polled 27,463 (84%) votes in Kween, while his main opponent, Robert Kyagulanyi of the National Unity Platform, garnered 4,005 (12.3%).

Kween now has 61,140 registered voters—an increase of 14,060—and the number of polling stations has risen from 152 in 2021 to 180.

In Kapchorwa, there were 56,051 registered voters in the last general election, of whom 40,487 (72.2%) voted. Museveni received 30,590 (77.5%) votes, while Kyagulanyi obtained 7,542 (19.1%). The other candidates polled 1,334 (3.4%).

Kapchorwa now has a total of 67,064 voters and 186 polling stations, up from 143 in 2021.

Museveni is campaigning for a seventh term in office under the theme Protecting the Gains, Making a Qualitative Leap into High Middle-Income Status.

The theme focuses on safeguarding achievements over the past 39 years, such as peace and development, while aiming to propel Uganda to high middle-income status.

Other gains include wealth creation initiatives, job opportunities, service delivery, market access, as well as unity and political stability.
