President Yoweri Museveni has congratulated Samia Suluhu Hassan and the Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) party on her re-election as President of Tanzania. Museveni, who skipped Suluhu's swearing-in ceremony today, November 3, 2025, but represented by Vice-President Jessica Alupo, promised to strengthen the bond between Uganda and Tanzania.
Suluhu was inaugurated as president after winning 98 per cent of the vote despite the main opposition party, Chadema, which was barred from running, rejecting the results. It has called for fresh elections, saying last Wednesday's vote was a "sham".
Ahead of her arrival for the inauguration, state TV showed officials and foreign dignitaries, including Uganda's Vice-President Jessica Alupo, in stands overlooking parade grounds in State House in the capital Dodoma. Earlier, the broadcaster said the public would not attend.
