President Yoweri Museveni has lauded the former Prime Minister’s wife, the late Catherine Muwanga Zawedde, for her commitment to nurturing the children responsibly after the death of her husband.

The late Paulo Muwanga was a Ugandan politician who served briefly as de facto president, and later as prime minister of Uganda.

Represented by the lands minister Judith Nabakooba, Museveni described Catherine Muwanga as a mother with strong family values who committed to raising her children well after the death of her husband.

“This afternoon, I represented our President, Kaguta Museveni at the burial of the late Catherine Muwanga, widow to the late Prime Minister, Paulo Muwanga in Kamengo, Mpigi district,” Nabakooba stated on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday, April 28, 2024.

The President contributed 10 million shillings towards the burial arrangements.

Zawedde was celebrated for her support and resilience during her husband’s political career, often providing a stabilising presence behind the scenes. Her legacy includes not only her political and social contributions to Uganda but also her role in nurturing future generations.

Muwanga was known for his crucial role during a turbulent period in Uganda’s history, particularly around the time of the 1980 elections, which eventually led to the government under President Milton Obote.
