MAYUGE/NAMAYINGO - President Yoweri Museveni is on Wednesday (November 19) in the districts of Namayingo and Mayuge to woo voters ahead of the 2026 general election.
Museveni, who is standing on the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party ticket, lost ground in both districts in the 2021 general election.
In that 2021 election, Namayingo had 107,234 registered voters, of whom 60,992 (56.9 percent) voted. Museveni polled 27,341 (47.2 percent) votes while his chief rival, Robert Kyagulanyi of the National Unity Platform, garnered 27,651 (47.8 percent).
In Mayuge, out of 231,116 registered voters, 122,114 (52.8 percent) voted, and 50,932 (43.3 percent) supported the NRM presidential candidate. Kyagulanyi, who is again challenging Museveni on the NUP ticket, received 62,938 (53.5 percent) votes, defeating the incumbent in an area that had been an NRM stronghold for years.
Museveni is campaigning under the theme: “Protecting the Gains, Making a Qualitative Leap into High Middle-Income Status.”
The theme focuses on safeguarding achievements over the past 39 years, including peace and development, while working to propel Uganda to high middle-income status.
Other gains highlighted include wealth creation initiatives, job opportunities, service delivery, market access and the East African political federation.
By the time of writing this story, Museveni was set to hold his first rally of the day at Namayingo Primary School playground in Namayingo, followed by a second and final event at the grounds of Mayuge district headquarters.
